Our current projects

We're currently carrying out fieldwork and/or research so we can report on these topics, either before the end of this financial year or soon after:

  • the governance and oversight of subsidiaries of Auckland Council,
  • the institutional arrangements for ensuring the quality of teaching,
  • civilianisation of the New Zealand Defence Force,
  • good practice in information communications technology,
  • financial management within government
  • a follow-up to our report on the effectiveness of arrangements to check the standard of services provided by rest homes,
  • the Māori education strategy for 2008-2012, Ka Hikitia,
  • the response of the New Zealand Police to the Commission of Inquiry into Police Conduct (our third monitoring report),
  • quality assurance for internally assessed standards for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement.

During 2011/12, we're also encouraging better reporting of suspected fraud and sharing the results of our fraud survey.

Our website for schools

Some of our work has been rewritten as case studies, designed to fit into the New Zealand Curriculum. We've also made a video about our role in the Parliamentary system. Check out auditor-general.parliament.nz to find out more...
