Request for feedback

Draft annual plan 2018/19.

I am pleased to present our Office’s draft annual plan for 2018/19. We are seeking your feedback on the work described in Part 3.

Under section 36 of the Public Audit Act 2001, the Auditor-General is required to consult the House of Representatives each year on a draft annual plan that describes our proposed work programme for the next financial year. Consultation with Parliament helps to ensure that our work is relevant, responsive, and useful to the needs of our key stakeholders.

This year we have revised aspects of how we present our work programme to more clearly represent the diverse range of work that we do, including our theme-based work, and to show its alignment with The Auditor-General’s strategic intentions to 2025. This draft annual plan provides further clarity about our work programme by:

  • showing how our theme-based work is completed over more than one year;
  • presenting a clearer view of how, in any one year, we are completing and starting work that spans several years; and
  • presenting a new work category – “Sharing good practice” – which directly links to our strategic objective of strengthening the public sector.

Part 3 describes the work that we are consulting you about, including the proposed theme for our theme-based work starting in 2018/19 – Procurement. Part 1 provides context for our work. Part 2 provides an overview of our multi-year work programme and our various work categories.

Our 2018/19 work programme will be confirmed after consultation with members of Parliament and other stakeholders. I remind members to be aware that the work outlined in this proposed work programme might be reprioritised or might not be able to proceed if the Auditor-General decides that the Office needs to carry out other unplanned work.

We look forward to your responses, which we will consider and incorporate into our statutory Annual Plan for 2018/19 as appropriate, following consultation with the incoming Auditor-General, John Ryan. We would appreciate receiving feedback by Friday 1 June 2018.

Thank you,
